From Giacometti to LaChapelle

AN EXHIBITION DEDICATED TO COLLODI’S PINOCCHIO: A WOODEN PUPPET UNIVERSALLY RECOGNIZED AS A SYMBOL OF ITALY AND TUSCANY.

22 OCT 2019 – 22 MAR 2020
Villa Bardini, Firenze

Pinocchio, whose fictional adventures are among the most famous and reinterpreted stories in the 20th Century is now at the center of Villa Bardini’s latest exhibit. The show examines the tremendous influence on the art world this beloved character has had over the last one hundred years.

From Giacometti to LaChapelle, from Munari to Paladino, from Calder to Ontani, from McCarthy to Venturino Venturi, Pinocchio has not only left an indisputable mark on the collective imagination, but also the arts, the latter of which is this show’s main theme.

Curated by Lucia Fiaschi, based on a concept by herself and Ambra Nepi, the exhibit at Villa Bardini explores the enigmatic puppet’s many sides. With an emphasis on the contemporary, the show moves further and further away from Pinocchio’s representations in books, and instead focuses on how visual artists have oftentimes chosen him the protagonist of their imaginary universe.

Enigma Pinocchio. From Giacometti to LaChapelle is an exhibit produced and organized by Fondazione CR Firenze and Fondazione Parchi Monumentali Bardini e Peyron alongside Generali Valore Cultura. Realized with the coordination of the Arthemisia Group, in collaboration with Unicoop Firenze and with the patronage of the City of Florence.
